Student-Company Event sponsored by ISR: Hughes Network Systems

This is the fourth in a series of ISR-organized company information events for students this fall. The event includes information on the company, its line of work, the role of systems engineerin, and recruiting activities for interns and full-time hires (kinds of employee skills, information on applying, and advice on resumes and interviewing).

Come to this event to learn about Hughes Network Systems and engage in discussions with and engage in discussions with two University of Maryland alumnus: Senior Vice President John Kenyon, and Network Engineer George Zoto.

ISR believes this is a great opportunity for students to network with Hughes staff.  This should be quite useful towards your future employment, as Hughes has numerous Maryland alumni as employees. You are welcome to bring your CV to give to Mr. Kenyon and Mr. Zoto. We encourage you to ask questions during this interactive event.

About John Kenyon

Mr. Kenyon is a Senior Vice President of Engineering at Hughes.  He has led the development of HughesNet (formerly DirecPC), the largest satellite internet ISP in the world, and a project that has its beginnings with ISR in 1994.  Mr. Kenyon received his Bachelor of Science from the University of Maryland in 1969.

About Jorgos George Zoto

Mr. Zoto works as a Data Analyst and Full Stack Developer at Hughes Network Systems, the world’s leading provider of Satellite Broadband Internet, delivering innovative network technologies, managed services, and solutions for enterprises and governments globally.  He implements system improvements for the HughesNet Network Operation Center. His automated framework generates and presents status reports on network anomaly analysis, network engineering upgrades and security vulnerabilities of Satellite Communications.  The same automated framework also supports and monitors new networking technologies on a consumer as well as on an enterprise network environment.

Mr. Zoto received his Bachelor of Science in Computer and Telecommunications Engineering from the University of Thessaly – Volos, Greece in 2009 and his Master of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Maryland – College Park, MD in 2012.

All students are welcome to join ISR throughout the fall and bring their CVs to six informal company information events. These are great opportunities for you to network with companies and their technical/management staff, and will be very useful to you as you determine your future employment.

Each event features information on:

• The company
• Its line of work
• The kind of employees the company is looking for
• The role of systems engineering in the company 
• Applying for internships and full-time employment
• Advice on resumes and interviewing
 
Companies range from long-time strategic partners of ISR, to relatively new-to-ISR companies with which we are working to build significant relationships. Plus, you will be interacting with ISR alumni, who work at five of the companies and Clark School alumni, who are at the sixth!
