Maryland Offshore Wind Turns One!

Did you know that it was just last year that Gov. Martin O'Malley signed "The Maryland Offshore Wind Energy Act of 2013" that creates a mechanism to incentivize the development of up to 500 megawatts (MW) of offshore wind capacity, at least ten nautical miles off of Maryland's coast? A target project size of 200 MW would require the installation an estimated 40 turbines off the coast of Ocean City.
The Business Network for Maryland Offshore Wind (BizMDOSW) has a mission to expand public and private sector knowledge, expertise and contacts in order to participate in the global offshore wind supply chain, and maximize Maryland content in the development, construction, maintenance and operation of Maryland's and other regional offshore wind projects.
BizMDOSW will achieve this by undertaking the following goals:
GOAL 1: Build an offshore renewable energy hub of excellence that enables Maryland businesses to compete globally, regionally and locally.
GOAL 2: Drive public and private sector collaboration through increased membership education and networking.
GOAL 3: Develop a diverse offshore wind workforce that employs entry to high skill level workers.
GOAL 4: Foster technology innovation to lower the cost of offshore wind energy.
GOAL 5: Promote and support policies for developing an offshore wind industry in Maryland.
