ECE Names 2016-2017 Distinguished Dissertation Fellows

The fellowships are awarded to outstanding students in the final stages of dissertation work in recognition of their research excellence. This year, each fellowship recipient will receive $3,000. The following authors’ dissertations were selected by a search committee. Professors Blankenship, Khaligh, Papamanthou, Ott, and Simon chose this year’s fellows:

Abbas Kazemipour
Dissertation Title: Nonlinear Dynamical Models for Compressive Projection Microscopy: Theory and Practice
Co-advised by Profs. Wu and Babadi

V. Praneeth Boda
Sampling Rate Distortion
Advised by Prof. Narayan

Chongxi Bao
Hardware Attacks and Mitigation Techniques
Advised by Prof. Srivastava

Ahmed Arafa
Energy Harvesting Communication Networks with System Costs
Advised by Prof. Ulukus

Andrew Berkovich
Biologically Inspired Low-Light CMOS Vision Systems
Advised by Prof. Abshire

In addition, the selection committee chose Kazemipour and Boda as the department’s two nominees for the A. James Clark School’s Dean’s Research Award.
