Prof. Rajeev Barua’s (ECE/ISR) Startup Company, SecondWrite LLC, is 1 of 10 companies to receive The Maryland Technology Development Corporation (TEDCO) funding through its Seed Investment Funds in the amount of $100,000.

Founded by Prof. Barua in 2013 and located in College Park, Maryland, SecondWrite LLC is a Phase II, National Science Foundation (NSF) SBIR funded company with a next-generation sandbox that detects advanced malware including APTs, targeted attacks and zero-day evasions that defeat other solutions. Its university-developed patent pending technology identifies hidden paths in malware and forcibly executes them, achieving complete code coverage. In addition, it can detect sophisticated anti-analysis malware that cannot be detected by other solutions, using deep program introspection.

SecondWrite’s technology was licensed with the help of the Office of Technology Commercialization (OTC) within the Division of Research, which has licensed more than 900 technologies since its creation in 1986. Additionally, SecondWrite is a UMD incubator company through the Maryland Technology Enterprise Institute, or Mtech, which provides support and guidance for entrepreneurs at UMD, and is a member of the NSF's Innovation Corps (I-Corps) program.

According to TEDCO CEO George Davis, “TEDCO’s Seed Investments fuel Maryland companies in their efforts to develop and commercialize new technology-based products…TEDCO’s Investment really makes a difference in helping them to become winners and propelling them to greater things, such as follow-on investment, job creation, and sustainability.”
