The University of Maryland’s College of Information Studies (CLIS) recently appointed Dr. Douglas Oard, a 1996 Ph.D. graduate in electrical engineering, as Associate Dean for Research. This appointment, the first in the College’s 40-year history, reflects a dramatic increase in research activity within the College.

Dr. Oard brings a great deal of experience to this new position, including a decade on the CLIS faculty, five years in leadership positions with the Office of Naval Research, and service as Principal Investigator (PI) or Co-PI for more than $6 million in sponsored research from the National Science Foundation and the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency.
