Alumnus Amit Roy-Chowdhury Promoted

Professor Amit Roy-Chowdhury graduated with his Ph.D. from ECE in 2002.

Amit Roy-Chowdhury, professor of Electrical Engineering at University of California, Riverside and alumnus of the University of Maryland was recently promoted to full professor with tenure  by UCR’s Bourns College of Engineering.

A former student of Department Chair Rama Chellappa (ECE/UMIACS), Dr. Roy-Chowdhury received his Ph.D. from the University of Maryland in 2002. He is the leader of the Video Computing Group at UCR, whose research focuses on camera networks, human behavior modeling, face recognition and bio-image analysis. Roy-Chowdhury’s broad research areas include computer vision and image processing, statistical pattern recognition and machine learning.

His current research is supported by grants from the National Science Foundation, Office of Naval Research, Army Research Office and private industries. Roy-Chowdhury has published over 100 papers and two books, including “Camera Networks: The Acquisition and Analysis of Videos Over Wide Areas”.
