From lglenn@ece.umd.edu Thu Jun 16 15:11:48 2005 Date: Thu, 16 Jun 2005 15:11:47 -0400 From: Luther B. Glenn III To: silio@eng.umd.edu Cc: mckinney@umd.edu Subject: AVW Glue Sun Terminals and ENEE350 Dr. Silio, After having looked into the issue we discussed yesterday afternoon, it appears that the problem may be attributed to recent patches/changes in the GLUE infrastructure. I have already contacted the GLUE support staff regarding this and will work with them towards a more permanent solution. In the interim, I have discovered a viable work-around that will allow the students to function and complete their assignments until such time as the GLUE support staff and I are able to render a permanent solution. The work-around is as follows: 1. Log in to one of the Jasmine lab computers 2. Launch X-Win32 & initiate the X-session labeled "Glue" 3. In either of the Xterm windows that appears, enter "echo $DISPLAY" This should return a value that appears as ".ece.umd.edu:0.0" 4. In the same Xterm window, enter "setenv DISPLAY .eng.umd.edu:0.0" where "" should be replaced with the value returned from step 3. >From this point on, the procedure to launch "sim" should follow normally. We apologize for the inconvenience, and will endeavor to remedy this as expeditiously as possible. Regards, Luther Luther B.
