Title: Radio based motion analytics for monitoring and mapping.
Abstract:
Monitoring and mapping the environment is crucial to many intelligent applications such as security surveillance, location-based services, and intelligent building analytics. However, camera- and lidar-based methods are either limited by the light conditions, privacy intrusive, or expensive for massive deployment. Radio Frequency (RF) based methods monitor and map the environments through the wall by analyzing the impact of motion on the propagated signals, achieving a better tradeoff between accuracy and privacy protection. In the preliminary work, we boosted the map generation system through RF-based robotic tracking, and implemented the proposed system in three different environments. Extensive experiments demonstrate the efficiency and robustness of our RF-based map reconstruction systems in different time-varying environments. Moreover, by analyzing the motion characteristics through WiFi signals, we built a motion detection and recognition system for human and non-human targets independently from location, orientation, and environments. For the proposed research, we will further explore how to recognize the identity and activity of moving subjects in various environments, to achieve ubiquitous and robust monitoring and mapping systems with commodity WiFi.
