Talk title: "Journey from Maryland Electrical Engineering Undergrad to Engineering Leader"

Steve Harón
Deputy Director of the Sensor and Signal Processing (SSP) Division,
Systems & Technology Research (STR)

In this talk, Mr. Harón will give a short overview of STR. He will then talk about his own experience starting as a student in Maryland’s electrical engineering undergraduate program to becoming a senior leader at an engineering research company, including lessons learned for students at the beginning of their own journey.

Steven Harón is the Deputy Director of the Sensor and Signal Processing (SSP) Division at Systems & Technology Research (STR) in Woburn, MA. He also leads the RF Systems section within SSP’s Advanced Sensor Technology group. STR develops innovative solutions to National Security challenges including sensing, automated processing, decision support, phenomenology and modeling, experimentation, and advanced system prototyping. Prior to joining STR in 2013, Mr. Harón was a Section Leader in the Spectral and Image Exploitation Directorate at BAE Systems Advanced Information Technologies in Burlington, MA. From 1997 to 2006 he was an Associate Technical Staff member at MIT Lincoln Laboratory in Lexington, MA. His research interests include RF systems development, modeling and performance analysis, multi-intelligence sensor fusion, and signal processing for sensor exploitation. Mr. Harón received a B.Sc. in 1994 from the University of Maryland, College Park and a M.Sc degree in 1996 from Purdue University, both in electrical engineering.
