Alumnus Saini Joins Faculty at University of Waterloo in Canada

Dr. Simarjeet Saini

ECE Alumnus Dr. Simarjeet Saini has accepted a position as Associate Professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the University of Waterloo in Canada.

Dr. Saini received his Ph. D. in August 2001 under the direction of his advisor Prof. Mario Dagenais. The title of his Ph.D. dissertation was: "Passive Active Resonant Coupler (PARC): A New Platform for Monolithic Integration of Active and Passive Devices." After his dissertation, he worked for five years at Covega (formerly Quantum Photonics Inc.) as a lead optoelectronic device engineer. He also spent one year with Prof. Dagenais in 2005 in the Photonic Switching and Integrated Optoelectronics Laboratory at the University of Maryland.

His research interests include monolithic and hybrid integration of optoelectronic devices, biophotonics, and design and fabrication of high power semiconductor lasers, amplifiers and SLEDs.

Dr. Saini will join Waterloo this fall.
