Espy-Wilson Promoted to Full Professor

Dr. Carol Espy-Wilson

University of Maryland President C.D. Mote has approved Carol Espy-Wilson (ECE/ISR) for promotion to the rank of Professor. Her promotion will be effective July 1, 2007.

Dr. Espy-Wilson is a Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America and is an elected member of Sigma Xi. She has been the receipient of the NSF Minority Initiation Award (1990-1992), the Clare Booth Luce Professorship (1990-1995) the NIH Independent Scientist Award (1998-2003), and the Honda Initiation Award (2004-2005).

Dr. Espy-Wilson's research interests are in integration of engineering, linguistics and speech science in speech communication; speech recognition based on phonetic features to address the limitations of present recognizers (e.g., speaker dependence); speech production; and speech enhancement.
