Chellappa Gives Plenary Talk and Lecture on Pattern Recognition, Biometrics

Professor Rama Chellappa (ECE/CS/UMIACS) is speaking at two international events this week on the subjects of pattern recognition and biometrics.

Chellappa gave a plenary talk titled "Looking for Patterns in Video" at the 30th Anniversary Seminar of the Pattern Recognition Society of Finland on Friday, June 8, 2007. The Pattern Recognition Society of Finland promotes research into the methods of pattern recognition and analysis, and is a member of the International Association of Pattern Recognition (IAPR). Chellappa will also participate as a lecturer in a summer workshop on Advanced Studies on Biometrics for Secure Authentication in Sardigna, Italy on Tuesday, June 12. Chellappa has been in the news recently for his intelligent surveillance system that is based on pattern recognition and biometrics technology. He and his graduate student, Aravind Sundaresan, were also recently awarded the University of Maryland Invention of the Year prize for their "Markerless Motion Capture" technology.
