ECE Alumnus Cohn Elected Modbus-IDA President

ECE alumnus Fred Cohn was elected president of Modbus-IDA, a growing membership-based trade association committed to promoting Modbus as the world's leading protocol for industrial automation.

Cohn, who holds a BS in electrical engineering from the University of Maryland, Cohn began his career in 1980 with Westinghouse Electric and held various positions in their automation group. In 1986, Cohn joined Gould-Modicon and went on to lead the business unit team for large modular systems after AEG purchased Gould and then merged with Schneider Electric. Since 2004, Cohn has headed the ethernet systems business team at Schneider.

Modbus-IDA is a group of independent users and suppliers of automation devices that seeks to drive the adoption of the Modbus communication protocol suite and the evolution to address architectures for distributed automation systems across multiple market segments.
