Professor Charles Silio

Professor Charles Silio and his co-authors were awarded Best Paper at the 2012 IEEE International Conference on System of Systems Engineering (SoSE) on July 16-19 in Genoa, Italy.

His paper, “System of Systems to Provide QoS Monitoring, Management and Response in Cloud Computing Environments was co-authored with Paul Hershey, Shrisha Rao, and Akshay Narayan. The authors collaborated over the Internet to write the paper after initiating their collaboration at the IEEE International Systems Conference in Vancouver, BC, Canada, in March 2012.  Dr. Hershey is an alumnus of the A. James Clark School of Engineering (EE, ’94), a Raytheon Engineering Fellow, and Chief Engineer for Global Hawk Ground Systems at Raytheon Corporation. Dr. Silio is a professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Maryland.  Dr. Rao is a professor at the International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore, India, and Mr. Narayan is a student there.

IEEE System, Man, and Cybernetics Society hosted the Seventh International conference on System of Systems Engineering (SoSE) to showcase its vast ramifications in numerous engineering fields such as control, computing, communication, information technology, and in applications such as manufacturing, defense, national security, aerospace, aeronautics, energy, environment, healthcare, and transportation. The theme of the conference was “SoSE in cooperative and competitive distributed decision making in complex dynamic systems”, focusing on SoSE control and simulation methodologies to support decision in the specific domains of transport, energy, industrial and environmental risk management.
