Application Process
Students interested in participating in this program are asked to apply in the semester prior to the one in
which they would like to teach. They are then hired and assigned to work with a professor.
- The UTF application for Spring 2025 will be available online starting on November 20th! The deadline to apply is December 4th.
Information
Each semester the ECE department hires some of its finest students in high academic standing (3.3 GPA and higher) to serve as Undergraduate Teaching Fellows (UTFs) to lead labs and/or discussion sections for many of its 100-and 200-level ENEE courses. Some of these courses include:
- ENEE 101: Introduction to Electrical & Computer Engineering
- ENEE 140: Introduction to Programming Concepts for Engineers
- ENEE 150: Intermediate Programming Concepts for Engineers
- ENEE 200: Social and Ethical Dimensions of Engineering Technology
- ENEE 205: Electric Circuits
- ENEE 244: Digital Logical Design
UTF Duties
UTF positions hourly commitment range between 6 to 12 hours per week, depending on the course. In addition to leading labs and/or discussion sections, UTFs are expected to hold regular office hours and grade homework and lab experiments as applicable.
ENEE101 Introduction to Electrical & Computer Engineering
New course for first-year ECE students. UTFs will lead two 1-hour and 50 minute labs, help grade assignments and hold office hours. Students with ENES100 LTF experience are strongly encouraged to apply. Students are required to work 12 hours a week.
ENEE 140: Introduction to Programming Concepts for Engineers
UTFs are expected to lead computer lab recitations, hold regular office hours, grade homework, projects, and help maintain the web pages. Must have received an “A” or “B” in ENEE 140. Students are required to work 12 hours a week.
ENEE 150: Intermediate Programming Concepts for Engineers
UTFs are expected to lead computer lab recitations, hold regular office hours, grade homework, projects, and help maintain the web pages. Must have received an “A” or “B” in ENEE 150 or CMSC 216 (150 preferred). Students are required to work 6 hours a week.
ENEE 200: Social and Ethical Dimensions of Engineering Technology
UTFs will be in charge of one section of students that meet once a week for 1 hour and 50 minutes. For the most part, the recitations are used to reinforce the material taught in class and to have group discussions, role-playing exercises, etc. The UTFs will hold 3 hours of office hours each week, and will have some grading responsibilities. Training and mentoring will be provided to the UTFs. This is a great opportunity to get leadership and teaching experience, and it is a fun class to lead. Must have received an“A” or “B” in ENEE 200. Students are required to work 8 hours a week.
ENEE 205: Electric Circuits
UTFs lead one recitation and a two hour lab. In addition, they will be expected to hold regular office hours, grade homework/projects, etc. Must have received an“A” or “B” in ENEE 205. Students are required to work 14 hours a week.
ENEE 244: Digital Logical Design
UTFs lead one recitation section which meets once a week for 50 minutes. In addition, UTFs will be expected to hold regular office hours, grade homework, projects, etc. Must have received an “A” or “B” in ENEE 244. Students are required to work 6 hours a week.
