Abstract: Offshore wind power started 22 years ago when some daring engineers and an adventurous electricity utility decided to attempt something nobody has done before. Since then the offshore wind power industry has grown from a couple megawatts to several gigawatts in size. However, up till now the vast majority of offshore wind power capacity existed in mainly the north european seas. Siemens Wind Power plays a key role in the global offshore wind power industry. Siemens is looking at the growing potential of the US market and how we can bring technology, experience and development. But before we can jump start the industry here, there are several challenges that need to be addressed. This presentation will provide a brief overview of offshore wind power, the role of siemens wind power, and what challenges the US currently faces at the beginning of it's offshore wind industry.
Speaker: In pursuit of his dream of becoming an astronaut, Bryan received his bachelors degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and then his masters degree in aerospace from the Georgia Institute of Technology. After grad school, he joined Siemens Wind Power in 2010 as an engineer and has since then worked in manufacturing, procurement and project management for on-shore wind power projects. Currently Bryan is technical sales manager for the Americas Offshore business segment. He still plans to travel to space one day.
