The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering established a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) committee in December 2020, consisting of volunteer faculty, staff, and student members. The committee meets once a month to have open discussions about DEI efforts across the department. In addition, committee sub-groups were formed to focus on key areas such as Staff/Faculty Relations, Events and Training, Research and Career Mentoring, Recruitment, Equity in Teaching, DEI Policies, and Website and Resources and meet on a regular basis to further initiatives.
Chaired by University of Maryland ADVANCE Professor Pamela Abshire, the committee aims to foster important conversations across the department and amplify the voices of underrepresented students, faculty, staff, and alumni.
