Being a woman outnumbered 3 to 1 in every classroom can feel disheartening.
Being a woman outnumbered 6 to 1 in the engineering industry can feel daunting.
Being a woman from a culture that advocates women should be quiet, demure, and acquiescent… while your mentors are telling you the opposite, “Be assertive and speak out!”… is hard.
Being a woman when your rational anxiety may get dismissed as "overblown" is frustrating.
In this seminar we will talk about the typical setbacks and anxieties of being a woman in engineering and other STEM career paths, and how to build confidence.
Presented by Dr. Alejandra Mercado, Associate Director, ECE Master’s in Telecommunications Program. She has studied engineering in both South America and the United States and has worked as an engineer in both academia and industry in both regions.
Sponsored by Women in Electrical and Computer Engineering
Food and Beverage will be served.
