Talk Title: “1G to 6G: The silent OGs connecting everything in the age of AI”

Abstract: Over the past three decades, the rapid expansion of wireless connectivity has been a catalyst for countless innovations, with many more on the horizon. While artificial intelligence and machine learning have dominated the news cycle, their efficacy is fundamentally dependent on the seamless communication of vast amounts of information. As new applications emerge, the volume of data requiring collection and transmission continues to escalate, positioning wireless connectivity as a cornerstone technology in this evolving paradigm. This talk will offer an RF hardware centric overview of the communication and sensing, explore key foundational technologies and trends, with opportunities and guidance for emerging professionals.

Biography: Anjana Dissanayake (Member, IEEE) received the B.S. and M.S. degrees from the Department of Electrical Engineering, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), South Korea, in 2015 and 2017, respectively. He completed the Ph.D. degree from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Virginia, Charlottesville in 2021 and joined the RF and Wireless Group, CSEM, (Swiss Center for Electronics and Microtechnology) at Neuchâtel, Switzerland. Since 2024, Anjana is Research Scientist at the newly formed MediaTek research center at West Lafayette, IN, dedicated for strategic technology exploration for next generation communication circuits and systems. He is actively engaged in Radio-Frequency integrated circuit (RFIC) technologies such as Bluetooth low-energy (BLE) / classic (BT), Wi-Fi, Wakeup Receiver, and Cellular technologies for 6G and beyond. Anjana has authored numerous IEEE publications and patents throughout his academic and industry career, is a recipient of the SSCS pre-doctoral award (2021) and acts as an NSF SRC GRC liaison on behalf of MediaTek.
