Thursday, April 23, 2026
3:00 p.m.
2164 Martin Hall, University of Maryland

The Chesapeake Chapter of IMAPS is made up of IMAPS members from the US capital area of Northern Virginia, Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Delaware. The Chesapeake Chapter works closely with the University of Maryland and defense-related technology organizations headquartered in the region.
This in-person chapter meeting begins with a welcome from Prof. Patrick McCluskey, an IMAPS Fellow and the Interim Chair of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Maryland. This is followed by an introduction from leadership of both the local IMAPS chapter and the UMD student chapter, who would outline the program and set the stage for the afternoon’s activities.
The event also features technical presentations from distinguished experts. Prof. Damena Agonafer, an Associate Professor and Clark Faculty Fellow at the University of Maryland, will present his research on “Direct-to-Chip Evaporative Cooling with Hollow Micropillar Membrane for Data Center CPUs and GPUs.” He will be joined by Dr. David Shahin, Advanced Packaging Leader at the Northrop Grumman Microelectronics Center, who will deliver a presentation on “Onshore Advanced Packaging at Northrop Grumman.”
Following the lectures, the spotlight shifts to the next generation of engineers with a 3-Minute Thesis segment, featuring student presenters Jonathan Martin, Aniket Ajitkumar Bharamgonda, Clifton Buxbaum, Roshith Mittakolu, Swarup Subudhi, and Md Asif Faisal Beg. Their presentations will cover topics including “Harmonic-Vibration Durability of Low Temperature Solders,” “Microstructure-Based Modeling of Lead-Free Solder Joints,” “Reliability of Solar PV Inverters,” “Data Center Digital Twins and Thermal Management of Electronics,” "Development, Printing, and Testing of Soft Magnetic Films and CNT-GO-based Electronics," and “Thermal and Mechanical Characterization of Polymers.”
The gathering concludes with a formal IMAPS business meeting, offering a forum for organizational updates and networking.
