ECE Graduate Students Score Big Wins in Prestigious Chinese Government Award
The China Scholarship Council has selected 500 recent graduates from around the world to receive the Chinese Government Award for Outstanding Self-financed Students Abroad. The award is open to all Chinese students who have been supported as TAs, RAs or fellows by their graduate institutions outside of China. Out of a pool of several thousand eligible students, four students from the Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department at the University of Maryland were awarded this year:
Wong Chau-Wai, PhD student of Prof. Min Wu
Junyi Shen, PhD student of Prof. A. Khaligh
Shuo Sun, PhD student of Prof. Edo Waks
Ting Xie, PhD student of Prof. Mel Gomez
The China Scholarship Council established the award in 2003 with the approval from the Ministry of Education with the purpose of rewarding outstanding academic performance of self-financed Chinese students abroad. Since 2015, 4,914 outstanding students have received the award.
