Ghodssi invited speaker at international nano and biotechnology winter school
On Jan. 26, ISR Director Reza Ghodssi (ECE/ISR) was an invited speaker at the Third International Winter School on Nano and Biotechnology in Sterzing, Italy. Ghodssi’s lecture, "Integration of Biomaterials in Micro/Nano Systems for Biological and Chemical Sensing," explained two types of work he leads at the MEMS Sensors and Actuators Laboratory (MSAL). Ghodssi spoke about his research using virus-nanotemplated surfaces for enhancing biochemical recognition in sensors, and in patterning electrically responsive biomaterials for biosensor functionalization, which is performed in conjunction with the Maryland Biochip Collaborative. The use of biomaterials in microfabricated sensors to enhance their sensitivity and selectivity can aid in the development of highly efficient technologies for gathering new information in the life sciences. The winter school was co-organized by the Latemar Consortium, the Education, University and Research Department of the Trento Province (PAT), and the Trentino System of Higher Education and Research (STAR: University of Trento, Foundations and Research Centers). The school focused on "Next Generation Technology Systems and Life Sciences Interface Research: An Integrative Approach.”
