I decided to major in Computer Engineering because it combined the best of both worlds: computer science and engineering. I thought it would be interesting to not only code but to also learn about the inner functions/hardware of computers. So far, being a member of this department has been interesting and fun and I cannot wait to see what awaits in the future.

Tell us about you!

Hi!!! I am a rising sophomore from Suitland, MD which is about 30 minutes away from campus. Some of my hobbies include attending UMD sporting events, hanging out with my friends and relaxing in my dorm. I am interested in coding, psychology, dance/stepping and a bunch of other things. Recently, I have grown fond of succulent plants and taking care of them.

Why did you choose to study at the University of Maryland?

I chose to study at the University of Maryland for multiple reasons. This institution embodied what I would call my dream college. It has an amazing engineering/computer science program, exciting D1 sports, fun outside environment and an inclusive diverse community. Because I am a homebody, I knew that picking an in-state school would be best for me and UMD has been the perfect choice!

Can you tell us about the three scholarships you received from UMD?

  • My first year at UMD, I was in the College Park Scholars Science and Global Change program. This program includes community service as I vividly remember picking out roots from the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens my second day on campus. Excursions and community service events are propagated all throughout the school year and we learn about climate change and its global effects.
  • As a Clark Legacy Scholarship recipient, I must continue to work towards my engineering degree and remain in good academic standing. There are a lot of opportunities and events that I can attend as a scholar.
  • The summer before my freshman year, I was awarded the Maryland Promise Scholarship which is a new scholarship funded by the Clark Foundation. It is a scholarship that is awarded based on academic achievement.

What do you enjoy about being a Terp?

As a Terp I celebrate state pride everyday and strive to bring great knowledge not only to the University, but to the state of Maryland. As a Terp, I want to make my hometown proud and possibly give back to the community in the future (especially to Prince George’s County where I am from). I love being a part of this community and being able to interact with like-minded individuals everyday.
