ECE Ph.D. Graduates Turaga, Veeraraghavan Appointed to Faculty Positions
ECE alumni Pavan Turaga (Ph.D., 2009) and Ashok Veeraraghavan (Ph.D., 2008), both former students of Minta Martin Professor of Engineering Rama Chellappa (ECE/UMIACS/CS), have both been appointed to university faculty positions.
Dr. Pavan Turaga, who currently serves as a research associate with Prof. Chellappa's research team at the University of Maryland, will join Arizona State University as assistant professor in Interactive Media and Electrical and Computer Engineering. His primary research interests include automatic interpretation of multimedia signals, computer vision, and image processing.
Dr. Ashok Veeraraghavan, who currently serves as a research scientist at Mitsubishi Electric Research Laboratories (MERL) in Boston, will join the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Rice University beginning Summer of 2011. He planning to set up a computer vision and computational imaging laboratory at Rice.
In other news related to graduate students in Prof. Chellappa's research group, Dr. Ruonan Li (Ph.D., 2011), who successfully defended his doctoral dissertation on May 10, will join Harvard University as a postdoctoral researcher. Dikpal Reddy, who will defend on July 15, will go to the University of California, Berkeley as a postdoctoral researcher. Kausik Mitra, who will also defend on July 15, will go to Rice University as a postdoctoral researcher.
