Hundreds Attend ECE International Day Celebration
Undergraduates, graduate students, alumni and friends, faculty, and staff from the Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) Department joined together to share their different cultures at the second annual ECE International Day on Wednesday, April 9, 2008, in the Jeong H. Kim Engineering Building. Nearly 300 participants attended the event, representing over 36 different countries. Costumes and music entertained the crowds and a medley of foods from the different countries satisfied the appetites of those who filled the room. Students, faculty, and staff dressed up in traditional costumes and brought in a variety of dishes for fellow students and colleagues to sample their nation's culture.
The event was organized by Academic Advisor Angela Fang, and Associate Director of Administrative Affairs Steve Norton of the ECE Undergraduate Studies office. Meriam Meghirbi, an alumna who helped put together the first ECE International Day, also returned for the event.
The different cultures represented included Australia, Benin, Bolivia, Bulgaria, Cameroon, Canada, China, Colombia, Egypt, England, Ethiopia, Ghana, Greece, Guatemala, Haiti, India, Indonesia, Iran, Ireland, Israel, Japan, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Russia, South Korea, Tunisia, Taiwan, Ukraine, and Venezuela.
