UMD Cybersecurity Club Moves On To CCDC Regional Finals
The University of Maryland Cybersecurity Club will be moving on to the 6th CyberWatch Mid-Atlantic Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (CCDC) Regional Finals.
After two weeks of competition, 22 schools have been narrowed down to 8. These eight will compete from March 10th-12th at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Lab in Laurel, Maryland.
The other schools to make it to Regional Finals are Craven Community College (North Carolina), Capitol College (Maryland), Forsyth Technical Community College (North Carolina), George Washington University (Washington, D.C.), Hagerstown Community College (Maryland), James Madison University (Virginia), and Wilmington University (Delaware).
The University of Maryland, College Park team scored a win in the 5th of 8 qualifying rounds against Towson University and the University of Maryland, Baltimore College (UMBC). UMBC was last year’s Mid-Atlantic CCDC virtual Qualifying Round Winner.
The Mid-Atlantic CCDC is only one of nine regional competitions, which combine to make the Deloitte National CCDC.
The CCDC provides hands-on application of information assurance skills to enhance students’ understanding of both theory and practice. Such experiential education increases the knowledge and expertise of future professionals who may be in a position to contribute to the secure design and operation of critical information and its supporting infrastructure (Exploring a National Cyber Security Exercise for Colleges and Universities, Hoffman and Ragsdale, 2004).
