ECE Alumnus Hershey Promoted to Fellow at Raytheon
Paul C. Hershey, an M.S. and Ph.D. alumnus in electrical engineering, was promoted to the position of Engineering Fellow at Raytheon. Hershey was one of only nine individuals to receive this honor, given to Raytheon professionals who have distinguished themselves through technical achievements and expertise in the application of advanced technologies.
Prior to his promotion, Dr. Hershey had served as Chief Engineer within Raytheon's Intelligence and Information Systems (IIS) division.
Hershey completed his Ph.D. at the University of Maryland in May 1994. He was advised by Professor Charles Silio. Paul participated in the IBM Graduate Work Study Program with IBM Manassas, which provided University of Maryland graduate courses via instructional television from the four instructional TV classrooms in the College of Engineering. The areas covered within electrical engineering included computer engineering, communications, microelectronics, and computer science. This program provided enough 400 and 600 level courses for students to complete M.S. course requirements in these areas and to satisfy course requirements in major and minor areas for the Ph.D. degree. Prior to earning his Ph.D., Paul earned his M.S. through the Fairchild Scholars Program, which allowed employees of Fairchild to work 20 hours/week and to spend 20 hours/week on campus.
