ECE Student Wins Gates Millennium National Scholarship

An ECE student is among seven in the University of Maryland’s A. James Clark School of Engineering to receive a national scholarship so far this academic year, according to the University's National Scholarships Office.

ECE graduate student Hung-Quoc Lai was one of three Clark school students to be awarded a Gates Millennium Scholarship. The Gates Millennium Scholars (GMS) program, funded by a grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, was established in 1999 to provide outstanding African American, American Indian/Alaska Natives, Asian Pacific Islander Americans, and Hispanic American students with the opportunity to pursue higher education in mathematics, science, engineering, education, or library science. For more information on the GMS program, visit: http://www.gmsp.org/.

The scholarship office received this information from student winners and from searching the web. The foundations above do not directly provide lists of winners to the school.
