ECE’s Ferlic, Goswami, and Zhang Named Outstanding Graduate Assistants

Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) graduate assistants Nathaniel Ferlic, Debdipta Goswami, and Zeyu Zhang have been awarded the University of Maryland Graduate School’s 2018-2019 Outstanding Graduate Assistant Award. The award recognizes the outstanding contributions that graduate assistants provide to students, faculty, departments, administrative units, and the university as a whole. Recipients of the award are among the top 2 percent of GAs on campus in a given year.

Nathaniel Ferlic is advised by Professor Chris Davis (ECE). His research interests are in electrophysics and deals with quantum mechanics, lasers, and optics.

Debdipta Goswami is advised by Aerospace Engineering Professor Derek Paley (ISR). His research interests are in non-linear systems and stochastic estimation and control.

Zeyu Zhang is advised by Associate Professor Alireza Khaligh (ECE/ISR). His research interests are in power electronics.

In addition, Physics Ph.D. student Jaideep Pathak has also won the Outstanding Graduate Assistant Award. He is advised by Prof. Ed Ott (ECE/IREAP/Physics). Pathak’s research focuses on machine learning and its application to nonlinear dynamics and chaos.

The awards will be given at the Annual Fellowship and Award Celebration on May 14.
