Structure of a T-type PFC and its power circuit components

Led by Professor Alireza Khaligh, Reza Asrar Ghaderloo, Yidi Shen, Ayodhya Somiruwan Gamwari, and Chanakainghabahu won the Best Student Paper Award at the IEEE 6th Global Power, Energy and Communications Conference (GPECOM2024)  held in Budapest, Hungary June 4 -7, 2024.

Titled Design and Component Selection of Three-Phase T-type Power Factor Correction (PFC) rectifier, the paper provides an overview of a comprehensive design and component selection of a 11KW 3-phase T-type PFC converter operating at 140kHZ switching frequency. The group investigated the selection of key power components, including the switches and DC-link capacitors, needed to ensure optimal efficiency for a PFC converter and the switching loss for a T-type converter. The work also presented an approach to determine the lowest total semiconductor loss for each T-type leg, thus providing information that can be applied to a wide variety of circumstances.

The annual IEEE Global Power, Energy and Communications Conference focuses on the latest technologies, research and challenges in power electronics, electrical machines and drives, power generation, transmission and distribution.
