Vishkin Delivers Distinguished Lecture at IllinoisProfessor Uzi Vishkin gave an invited talk at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign on March 15, 2010 as part of the Parallel@Illinois Distinguished Lecture series. The title of his talk was "Using Simple Abstraction to Guide the Reinvention of Computing for Parallelism." The Parallel@Illinois lecture series sponsored by the Department of Computer Science and the Universal Parallel Computing Research Center.
The University of Illinois has a long and distinguished history in parallel computing, beginning with the ILLIAC machines of the 1960s. The Parallel@Illinois Distinguished Lecture series invites Illinois students and faculty to learn from some of the most significant contributors to the research and development of parallelism.
Dr. Vishkin's pioneering research has focused on parallel computing architecture including his recent PRAM-On-Chip invention, the Explicit Multi-Threading (XMT), which serves as a model for a next-generation desktop supercomputer.
