Zaki Receives Best Paper Award
George Zaki, an ECE graduate student who attended the 2011 IEEE Workshop on Signal Processing Systems on October 4-7 in Beirut, Lebanon, received a best student paper award.
Zaki, who was advised by Professor Shuvra Bhattacharyya, presented the paper titled, “Vectorization and Mapping of Software Defined Radio Applications on Heterogeneous Multi-processor Platforms.” He was awarded second place best student paper for his work.
George Zaki is a Ph.D. student studying in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Maryland and has been a member of the Maryland DSPCAP Research Group since 2008. His research interests include digital design, digital signal processing systems, HW-SW codesign, networked embedded systems and wireless communications. George’s advisor, Shuvra Bhattacharyya, is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Maryland, College Park. He holds a joint appointment in the University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies. Bhattacharyya’s research interests include signal processing systems, architectures, and software; biomedical circuits and systems; embedded software; and hardware/software co-design.
The objective of IEEE workshop on Signal Processing Systems is to provide a forum for discussion of new developments, recent progress, and innovations in the design and implementation of digital signal processing systems. It addresses all aspects of design and design methods of those systems. Emphasis is on current and future challenges in research and development in both academia and industry. The 2011 workshop was sponsored by Qualcomm and National Instruments, and co-organized by the American University of Beirut, The Center for Advanced Computer Studies at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette, IEEE Circuits and Systems Society and IEEE Signal Processing Society.
