Cybersecurity is the area that deals with all aspects of protecting a computer system from cyberattack, in particular, the hardware, software and data that constitute the system. Cyberprivacy is concerned with safeguarding an individual's privacy during the collection and storing processes.

Faculty research spans the areas of cryptography, cryptocurrencies and blockchain, hardware security, cloud security, network security, security and big data, adversarial machine learning, information-theoretic security and security of cyberphysical systems.

The Maryland Cybersecurity Center (MC2) is an academic center on the University of Maryland campus that brings together faculty, researchers, and students from several schools and departments across campus who are actively working in these fields.
