Richard J. La is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Maryland at College Park. He received the B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland at College Park in 1994, and the M.S. and Ph.D in Electrical Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley in 1997 and 2004, respectively. Before joining the department he was a member of systems engineering group at Alcatel U.S.A. and the mathematics of communication networks group at Motorola Inc.
He is a member of IEEE and has served on the technical program committee for IEEE ICC, ACM MobiHoc, and Wireless Internet.

Dr. La's research interests include congestion control in the Internet, resource allocations in wireless networks, network performance modeling, and application of game theory. He has taught both undergraduate and graduate course at UMCP on communication networks and probability and random processes.
